The maker says rising air in the lift tubes draws water through the gravel, the filter plates and the carbon cartridges, and also aerates the tank. The package holds 2 filter plates, 2 adjustable lift tubes, 2 straight airline tubes, 3 plate connectors and 2 replaceable Filt-a-Carb activated carbon cartridges. Each plate is 9.5 by 9.5 inches, so the two together cover 19 by 9.5 inches, and the lift tubes adjust from 9.75 to 12.75 inches in height. The maker says it suits most 10 gallon aquariums, can be used in freshwater and saltwater, and should be washed with warm water before it goes in. The shop sells the 10 gallon size, and the maker says the plates may be blue or black, so the color cannot be chosen. Lay the plates on the bare tank floor before you add the gravel, and measure the inside of your tank first.
