Plants need a light with red and blue in it, not just white, and they need it on the same schedule every day. This one has both, and the timer runs the day for you whether you are home or not. The bracket extends to fit tanks from 12 to 18 inches long. The timer offers 3, 6 and 12 hour cycles, so the tank keeps the same day length all week. Five brightness levels let you bring a new planted tank up slowly instead of starting at full power. Three light modes cover a plain daylight look and a fuller spectrum for plants. The shell is aluminum alloy, which sheds heat better than a plastic housing. Start planted tanks at six hours a day and work up. Going straight to twelve hours grows algae faster than it grows plants.
